Because blinking is a good avoidance mechanism. Just tell someone you're blinking and often they have no response. To which you blink. They may then ask a question about why you're blinking or even about something else, to which you blink. Blinking is very effective.

Welcome, glad you're enjoying them - I think they generally get better over time - especially collings, not really being a comedian, i think he gets a lot funnier with experience
